ZUENIR VENTURA

"Zuenir Ventura's 1968 – o ano que não terminou is a very good book. He writes with such diligence that, to anyone who writes, it is clear that what is down on paper must have been worked on over and over again. It is the best thing Zuenir has ever written. And with his, let's say, Olympian attitude au dessus de la melée, dealing objectively with everyone involved, only those are fooled who are not in the habit of reading – or if you prefer, those who aren't used to digging out the deeper meaning. The cumulative effect of such "objectivity" has a devastating impact on the main characters. And every now and then, Zu is unable to resist plain irony".
