PAULO MENDES CAMPOS

[ Belo Horizonte: 1922 1991 ] Poet, short narrative writer, editor, essayist, reporter, Paulo Mendes Campos formed part of the elite of modern Brazilian poetry, along with Vinicius de Moraes, Carlos Drummond de Andrade and Manuel Bandeira. He was one of the 'Generation of 45', although he never adopted the formal rigidity which typified the poets of this group.

Sensitive and emotional, Paulo's good sense of humor is one of his outstanding characteristics, often tending towards sarcasm and caricature. He is considered by many one of the greatest contemporary Brazilian short narrative writers, and one of our most representative poets.
