CHICO BUARQUE

[ Rio de Janeiro: 1944 ] The roots of Chico Buarque’s vast collection of works are firmly planted in the soil of the Brazilian people, where they result in a notable blend of poetry and political content. This singer, interpreter, actor, and writer finds his rhythms and themes in the noise of city streets, in the sighs of the night, in a capoeira circle, in samba, in the silence of lovers, and in hillside shacks. Together with Tom Jobim, Gilberto Gil, and Caetano Veloso, he forms the quartet of popular Brazilian music’s greatest contemporary composers.
