CARLOS HEITOR CONY

[ Rio de Janeiro ] Carlos Heitor Cony is a journalist and one of Brazil's leading writers of fiction. He writes columns and articles for several newspapers and magazines and has won some of today's major literary prizes.
The author has inherited the realism of Machado de Assis, a concern which he conveys to a more forceful reality, especially to the conflicts of middle-class customs. Through his plots and characters he reveals man's incapacities and difficulty in honoring his own humanity.
Cony spent over 20 years without publishing any books, coming back in 1995 with his autobiographical novel Quase Memória, a book acclaimed by the critics and defined by Ruy Castro as his private "Amarcord". Since then, to the delight of his readers, he has published several works.
