I'm not asking any other writers to imitate me or follow my lead, but I don't want to be another Flaubert, who lived through the turbulent times of the Paris Communes and wasn't aware of what was going on. (...) I link my activity as a writer and my duties as a citizen a great deal, which I do not expect of my fellow writers either. I believe it’s an author’s option to devote himself to the portrayal of the reality in which we live and boost the ranks of those involved in the struggle for peace and the transformation of our country. I believe my vocation is to disseminate information, through the playful medium of words, for the edification of everyone in my country. (...)"
